Indian police arrest woman for allegedly raping her husband’s lover

Indian police on Saturday arrested a woman for raping her partner’s lover, the police said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was arrested in the town of Rajasthan in northern India on charges of rape, and has been remanded in judicial custody, the state police said in a statement.

The police said the couple had been married for about six years, and the woman had been in the relationship with the accused man for more than five years.

The couple had met in 2015 and married in 2016.

Police in Rajasthani, the western state that includes the city of Indore, said on Saturday that they had found the accused in a forest near his residence and arrested him for the alleged crime.

The police said they were not looking for any other suspects in connection with the case.

India has long been plagued by cases of sexual violence against women.

Last year, the country recorded a record 1,077 rapes, nearly double the 1,031 reported in 2014, according to government data.

In 2017, the total number of reported cases increased to 1,569, the Indian Express reported.
